Laurinda Santos Lobo Municipal Cultural Centre

Reopened in late 2024, the Centro Cultural Municipal Laurinda Santos Lobo was created in 1979 at the suggestion of a group of well-known Santa Teresa residents, led by the playwright Paschoal Carlos Magno. A mansion the Baroness of Parina built in 1907, bought by general Pinheiro Machado — one of the most influential Brazilian politicians of the early 20th century — as a gift for his friend Joaquim Lima Pires Ferreira, a former senator of the Empire. The municipal cultural centre puts on exhibitions and photographic projections, dance and music workshops, theatre performances, children's activities, recitals and various open-air events. Reopened after restoration following a long period without activity, the annexe also houses the José de Alencar Library.
